Aysgarth Falls
close

Aysgarth Falls is a spectacular stretch of water in Lower Wensleydale. Aysgarth is best known for its triple flight of waterfalls, carved out by the River Ure.

The river stretches out along the valley and dramatically drops 30 metres.

The falls are a product of the Ice Age. Several thousand years ago, great rivers of ice ground down inside the valleys.

Nearby Bishopdale was ground deeper than Wensleydale and the River Ure had to drop a good distance to meet up with it, so the falls were formed.

Ure Salmon Trust

The River Ure is a superb river with a long and historic tradition of fly fishing and another Yorkshire Dales river where many of the techniques we use today were developed and practiced by the well known anglers of the past. Even today the River Ure is rightly famous for the quality of it's Brown Trout and Grayling fishing and many would consider the fishing on the River Ure as some of the best available in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Ure Salmon Trust (UST) was established to help increase the quantity of Migratory Fish (principally Salmon, Sea Trout and Lamprey) in the River Ure system.

If you want advice on how or where to fish for Salmon on the River Ure system please contact the Ure Salmon Trust for more information,.

Theakstons Brewery Tours

While we’d like to think our ales are legendary in their own right, many factors contribute to our reputation. To experience these you’ll need to visit our brewery in Masham, where you can taste the brews fresh from the cask! Our Visitor Centre has many other things worth experiencing too!

Follow the entire brewing process: from blending the ingredients, through to filling the casks, to the craft of the cooper as straight pieces of oak are formed into curved staves to create a perfect cask to hold a precise amount of beer.

The tours can be surprisingly thirsty work. So you’ll be invited to have a pint and enjoy the authentic taste of English beer at its best in the brewery tap, warmed by a welcoming real fire!
